About Chile

Located in the south west of South America, this country’s official name is República de Chile and its capital city is Santiago de Chile. It is a long and narrow land between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountain Range. Since mid 1990 tourism in Chile has become one of the main economic resources of the country.

Activities

Chile’s main touristy attractions correspond to places of beautiful landscapes in extreme parts of the country. Among other activities that can be done in Chile, we can mention ski, fishing, white water rafting, as well as cultural activities and those ones related to wine, since Chile has a very important wine industry.

Weather

Due to its length Chile has a notorious variety of weathers. The four seasons are clearly marked, with dry and warm summers, and rainy and cold winters. The coast’ temperatures are regulated by the sea, while the areas closer to the mountains have a high temperature range.

Gastronomy

Chilean gastronomy combines colonial elements of native inhabitants origin with some European influences. Wine is the main alcoholic drink. Although Chile has been producing wine for hundreds of years, in the last decades of the XX century the local wineries established technical and commercial bonds with European and America winemakers, contributing to the development of this industry. The best vineyards of Chile are concentrated in six valleys in the center of the country: Casablanca Valley, Maipo Valley, Maule Valley, Curicó Valley, Rapel Valley, and Colchagua Valley. Mainly French varieties of vine are grown.
